We fund and support biomedical ME/CFS research - with your help
ME/CFS Research Foundation funds and supports biomedical research into ME/CFS and Long COVID since 2022. Please support our work with your donation!
ME/CFS (what is it?) is a severe multisystemic condition that usually occurs following an infection, though other triggers can also be involved. Some people with post-COVID syndrome suffer from ME/CFS. It is the last major condition that, unfortunately, has received very little research to date. In Germany, there are over 650,000 ME/CFS patients (over 40 million worldwide), approx. 40% of whom have ME/CFS after Long COVID. The patients also include approx. 80,000 children and adolescents in Germany.
Patients have a very low quality of life and often a high degree of disability ((two-thirds are unable to work). To date, there are hardly any diagnostic tools, no curative treatment, little public research funding and, consequently, little research, even though this condition has been known for over 60 years and is classified by the WHO.

Our goals and initiatives
We fund and support biomedical research into ME/CFS and Long COVID. This is because patients of these serious, as yet incurable conditions are neglected both medically and socially – and not just in Germany.
ME/CFS and Long COVID are common conditions affecting 1.4 million people in Germany, and they also incur enormous social costs of over 64 billion euros per year, as our study on this subject shows.
Biomedical research will improve diagnostic methods and open up new treatment options, thereby improving patient care. More research will pave the way out of the medical and social crisis caused by these diseases. The more research is carried out, the sooner this will become a reality. This will enable patients to resume their normal lives at work, at school and with their families.
Better diagnostics
Currently, there is no specific biomarker. Therefore, ME/CFS is often misdiagnosed, diagnosed too late, or not diagnosed at all.
Recognition
Patients are often psychosomatised as MDs cannot yet properly diagnose ME/CFS. Although medically disproved long ago, this realisation has not yet reached all medical practitioners.
More research
Far too little research is being carried out into ME/CFS, even compared with other common illnesses. Yet research is the only way to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Support!
At present, there is a lack of funding for biomedical ME/CFS research. You can help us change that! There are many ways to do so …
Support our work!
Your donation helps
Your donation directly and 100% supports our commitment to generate more biomedical research into ME/CFS. We invest in biomedical research for better diagnostics and therapies, in line with our research funding strategyand in consultation with an international Scientific Advisory Board.
About us
Who we are
Due to insufficient research to date, there is a lack of medical knowledge, recognition, education/training, diagnosis, therapy and, ultimately, care for ME/CFS patients. We are addressing this problem by investing in the expansion of research.
We are a team of patients, relatives and committed supporters. To expand our work, we welcome financial support as well as active support of any kind!
Supporters
Are you a patient, family member or other supporter and would like to support us? Then please donate and inform your network about our work!
How can you contribute?
Building and funding biomedical research requires a lot of support. For example, we are working on establishing a network of researchers, building up fundraising, working with the major patient organisations and constantly looking for new ideas and, above all, people who can implement them responsibly and effectively.
If you want to and can support us - we'd love to hear from you! ... and please feel free to pass the word on!
